Odisha Cabinet Approves Extending Model School Scheme To All Blocks


BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha cabinet on Tuesday approved implementation of model school scheme in all 314 blocks with an investment of Rs 2628 crore for five years.

The government would provide education to 1.75 lakh SC, ST and economically backwards students in CBSE pattern, said Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi.

While the government will impart education through English Medium, Odia will be the second language, he added.

Students will appear 10th CBSE Board examination compulsory taking Odia as the MIL subject.

There will be 50% reservation for girl students in these schools. Reservation for SC and ST students will be made in these schools as per percentage of SC and ST population of the block.

Notably, the state government has already made 100 model schools operational in 14 districts from this academic session 2016-17. About 24,000 students have taken admission in class VI to class VIII this year.
