House adjourned paying homage to Jayalalithaa, Odisha CM to attend funeral


Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly adjourned for the day on Tuesday paying homage to late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, who passed away last night after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Moving an obituary motion in the House, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said her death is a great national loss.

Odisha Chief Minister said,

She was the leader of the masses, and had made immense contribution to the development and welfare of the people of Tamil Nadu. Her benevolent measures endeared her to one and all. The people of Tamil Nadu affectionately referred her as Amma.

“The people of Odisha stand in solidarity with the people of Tamil Nadu in this hour of grief and bereavement. I pray that her soul may rest in peace,” he added.

Patnaik said Jayalalithaa enjoyed a huge mandate, and was known for her administrative caliber and political sagacity.

She was the iron lady of Tamil Nadu who successfully steered the state on the path of progress and prosperity, said the Chief Minister.

The Chief Minister said he will attend her funeral in Chennai.

Naveen Patnaik said,

Jayalalithaa ji had a special relation with Odisha and people of Odisha. She had always stood by us in both our good and bad times.

Leader of opposition Narasingh Mishra said her death is a great loss to the people of Tamil Nadu and the nation.

BJP legislative party leader K.V. Singhdeo expressed his condolence on the death of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.
