Odisha govt to launch ‘Teach for Odisha’ program


Bhubaneswar: To make ITI students competitive globally, the Odisha government has decided to launch a special fellowship program ‘Teach for Odisha’.

The Odisha Skill Development Authority (OSDA) in collaboration with NGOs will implement the program in some government ITIs. Utkal University has been engaged as the mentor for the same, said an official.

The government would make the tech students industry ready, said the official.

The program has been conceptualized In line with ‘Teach for America’ program. But the difference is that here the government is also a partner, the official said.

As per the proposal, the state will invite applications from interested persons and organizations to partner and execute the program. Utkal University will train those selected.

After the training, they will teach in ITIs as per the requirement of industry and students. Those selected will undergo training (theory papers) at Utkal University for two weeks every three months after which they will return to their allotted institute to teach students.

The university will provide a PG diploma certificate to the fellows after completion of two years of teaching. The program will be implemented in 10 government ITIs in the pilot basis.

If the program is successful, it will be extended to other ITls and polytechnics of the state. The government has decided to provide world-class training to its youths to make ‘Skilled in Odisha’ a global brand.
