Faulty ration cards: Odisha Cong to gherao GPs

BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha Congress on Sunday announced to gherao all Gram Panchayat (GP) offices across the state on December 11 protesting against the allegedly massive erroneous in digital ration cards distribution by the state government to the beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act (NFSA).

After holding a meeting at the Congress Bhawan here, PCC president Prasad Harichandan announced that the party would hold the panchayat level agitation against irregularities in distribution of ration cards to people.

Prasad said that the bona fide beneficiaries have been deprived of being in the recipient master roll prepared by the state government.

He said it is found from across the state that the survey and selection have been made extremely erroneous and faulty.

He also added that the prime purpose of the NFSA, enacted during the former Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre, has not been served in true letter and spirit by the BJD Government in Odisha.

The ration card beneficiary list preparation smacks of malafide intent and step-motherly attitude of the ruling BJD Government in the state here, he fumed.
