Odisha police rescues 122 missing children under Operation Smile


BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha Police has rescued at least 122 children including one girl child missing from Jammu and Kashmir in past fortnight as part of its Operation Smile-II programme.

The operation launched on January 1, 2016, in the state with joint efforts of Odisha Police and Women and Child Development Department to rescue and rehabilitate the missing children.

The Odisha police were searching the missing children within the state, and so far 122 missing children have been rescued and handed over either to their legal guardians or sent to Child Care Institutions.

“Police rescued one girl child missing from Jammu and Kashmir at Delang in Puri district and another child from Madhya Pradesh. They were handed over to their respective states,” Additional Director General (ADG) Crime, B K Sharma said.

He said the operation would continue in the state till January 31 while the focus from January 15 to January 31 will be outside the state.

Ten police teams along with representatives from W&CD Department have been formed and left for different destination states like Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
