BHUBANESWAR: The twin city police on Monday detained one engineering student for hacking the website of Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT).
The student has been identified as Tarini Prasad Samantray, who is studying in an engineering college in the capital city of Odisha.
Samantray, who appeared before the Khandagiri Police, admitted that he had hacked the website, said sources.
He, however, said that the website was accidentally hacked even though the police refused to believe the words of the students given the contents uploaded in the OUAT website.
Earlier on Monday, Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Police Commissioner RP Sharma informed that some students might have involved in the hacking of OUAT website.
He said it is suspected that some students in Bhubaneswar may have involved in the hacking of OUAT website.
The OUAT authorities on Saturday lodged a complaint at the State Crime Branch and also at the Khandagiri police station seeking a probe into the hacking of its official website www.ouat.ac.in.
The website was hacked on Friday evening.
The website was hacked by a hacker identifying himself as ‘Don’ while posting obscene messages on the OUAT website.
