Odisha Junior Engineer Sentenced To 3-yr RI In Bribe Case


CUTTACK: Special Vigilance Judge, Keonjhar on Tuesday convicted Basanta Kumar Sahu, a former Junior Engineer of Banspal block for accepting illegal gratification of Rs.22,000.

Sahu was appointed as Assistant Engineer under Dharmasala block in Jajpur district.

The court sentenced him to undergo Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) for 3 years and to pay a fine of Rs.50,000. In default of payment of fine, he will undergo Rigorous Imprisonment for another 1 year and to pay a fine of Rs.20,000.

It relates to Balasore Vigilance P.S case in 2011.

He was arrested on the allegation of demand of illegal gratification of Rs. 22,000/- from one Pabitra Mohan Mohanta in order to prepare running bills of the work “ Construction of Earth Murom road from Kundhei to Gunghi”  executed by complainant Mohanta.

A trap was laid on in October 2011 and accused Basanta Kumar Sahu was caught red handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 22,000.
