Odisha Govt Asks Collectors To Construct AWC Buildings Earliest

BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha government on Friday asked all district collectors to expedite the process for construction of Anganwadi Centre (AWC) buildings on the school premises in the state.

In a letter to the collectors, Women and Child Development Secretary Vishal Dev informed that the state government has decided to construct buildings of all buildingless AWCs by 2018-19.

“As the availability of land is a major concern in the construction of AWC buildings. Therefore the land available at the school premises may be utilised on priority for construction of AWC buildings,” said Dev.

Notably, as many as 43,119 AWCs of the state do not have a permanent building. This constitutes 60 per cent of the total 71,306 such centres in operation in the state.
