Baijayant’s suspension will serve as warning to dissenters: BJD

Bhubaneswar: The ruling BJD on Thursday said the suspension of Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda from the party will serve as a warning to others before indulging in anti-party activities.

“I welcome the decision of BJD president Naveen Patnaik to suspend Panda. His suspension will serve as a warning for others in the party,” said BJD spokesperson Debasish Samantaray.

He said this was not a sudden decision.

The action was taken after an investigation into allegations and for targeting 3rd floor (Chief Minister’s Office) instead of speaking to the Chief Minister, he added.

BJD president Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday suspended Baijayant Panda from the primary membership of the party on grounds of ‘anti-party activities’.

“Panda has been directly and directly indulging in activities aimed at weakening BJD, whether it is the Parliament, state, constituency or media space-no opportunity was missed by Shri Panda to criticize BJD and eulogise the opposition,” said BJD.
