Bhubaneswar: The students of Utkal University on Thursday resorted to road blockade protesting the proposed second campus of Ramadevi Women’s University in Vani Vihar.
While the Utkal University students blocked the National Highway affecting the vehicular movement, the employees of the University did not join their work protesting the 2nd campus of Rama Devi University in Utkal University campus.
They protested the notification of Odisha Higher Education Department to set up the second campus of Rama Devi (RD) Women’s University on the premises of Utkal University.
The students of Utkal University had on Wednesday also protested the decision of Odisha government and staged a dharna.
The protestors blocked the main gate burning tyres and flaunted placards posting their protests amid slogans.
Sources informed that the second campus of RD Women’s University will be built over 30 acres of land within the sprawling Utkal University campus for which a panel has been formed headed by the Vice-Chancellor of Utkal University.
Such a step has been taken by the Higher Education Department in order to solve the present problem of shortage classrooms in the RD varsity.
