Revenue Inspector arrested on graft charge in Odisha


Mayurbhnaj: Vigilance sleuths on Saturday arrested Dilip Kumar Patra, Revenue Inspector of Bijatala Revenue Circle under Bijatala Tahasil in Mayurbhanj district after being caught red-handed accepting Rs 1,500 bribe.

Vigilance sleuths of the Balasore division caught Patra red-handed while he was demanding and accepting Rs 1,500 from one Sanjay Kumar Behera Bijatala under Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj to issue money receipt and not to evict his Bhoga shop constructed unauthorizedly on Government land at Bijatala market.

According to a Vigilance communiqué, Behera had constructed a Bhoga shop at Bijatala market on a piece of Government land and an encroachment case was initiated against him.

The assessment fees for the land come to 48 paise per year rounded to Re 1. As such, he was supposed to pay Rs 2 towards the assessment fees for the year 2016-2017 and 2017-2018.

However, the accused RI demanded Rs 5,000 from Behera as a bribe to issue money receipt towards payment of assessment fees and not to evict his Bhoga shop from the Government land.

Finding no alternative, Behera reported the matter to the anti-graft body resulting in the arrest of the RI.
