Veteran Odia actress Parbati Ghosh passes away

Bhubaneswar: Veteran Odia actress Parbati Ghosh passed away after a prolonged illness on Sunday night here.

Ghosh was admitted to a private hospital at around 12.30 am on Sunday after she complained of uneasiness. She breathed her last after few minutes. She was 85.

Ollywood fraternity mourned over the death of Parbati Ghosh. She was an actress, producer and director in the Odia film industry.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed grief over the demise of Ghosh and announced State funeral for her.

“I am deeply shocked at the passing away of veteran film personality Parvati Ghosh. She was an icon and one of the greatest gifts to Odia cinema industry. She was an Actor, Director and Producer at the same time,” said the Chief Minister.

In the early days of Odia cinema, she single-handedly uplifted Odia cinema to a new level. She was really a symbol of women empowerment when ideas like empowerment was unheard of, said Patnaik.

“Her departure is a great loss to our industry and the world of the silver screen. She will always be remembered for her contribution to Odia cinema,” he added.
