Balasore: A major fire broke out at Paris Bakery near station square in Odisha’s Balasore district in the wee hours of Thursday.
Fire brigades rushed to the site and doused the fire in three hours at Balasore Paris Bakery. While properties worth lakhs of rupees were destroyed in the fire mishap, no casualties were reported.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
Sources said when the locals spotted smoke emitting from the Balasore Paris Bakery, they immediately called the Balasore Fire services as well as the police.
Immediately, the firefighting teams rushed to the spot and doused the flames.
On Wednesday, at least 16 Bhubaneswar-based shopping malls and jewellery stores have been slapped with notices to adopt adequate fire prevention/safety measures within two months.
The notices have been issued to the establishments after they were found flouting fire safety guidelines during an inspection by Fire Safety Department personnel.
Following the massive fire mishap in December in Mumbai last year, the Odisha Fire Services Department swung into action by initiating a State-wide fire safety audit of high-rise buildings housing malls, hotels and shops.
During the drive, the Fire-fighting officials are checking whether the high-rise buildings and multiplexes have thorough fire safety equipment, efficacy of fire safety equipment, enough exit routes and exit signage boards, alternative evacuation plans in case of power failure or any emergency, and safety measures at house-keeping department, among many others, sources said.
