China’s trade reemergence a threat to Indian economy: Experts


Bhubaneswar: Reemergence of China as a strong economic power in South East Asia has posed a serious threat to the global trade environment, said Dean of Business Economics of Delhi University Vijay Kumar Kaul here on Sunday.

He said in order to compete with China, India needs to keep a vigilant eye and strengthen its maritime trade.

Addressing a plenary session on ‘The New Dynamics of Global Business’ as part of three-day International Conference on Indian Trade and Commerce, noted researcher Dr Kaul said global business decides the agenda not only of the global economy but also of global governance.

Every kind of institutions of human life from political to economic, cultural and social are being reshaped by the dynamics of global business, he added.

Speaking on the occasion, former Professor of Pokhara University, Nepal Dr Radheshyam Pradhan glorified the rich culture and maritime heritage of Kalinga and stressed on the cultural interaction among the SAARC countries to boost global trade environment.

East Asia needs to promote startup in order to nurture the youth skills and strengthen rural economy, he said.

The day two of the meet witnessed the presentation of more than 70 papers in the technical sessions by the research scholars across the SAARC countries including Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

Among others, director of Indo-Tibetian Studies of Visva-Bharati University Prof Andrea Loseries, head of Islamic history and culture department of Rajshahi University in Bangladesh Prof Khaililur Rahman, member of ICHR, New Delhi Prof Narayan Rao, former VC of Kalyani University, West Bengal Prof Malayendu Saha and director of IMS and conference convenor Prof Upendra Padhi also spoke.

The three-day conference organized by Institute of Media Studies (IMS) and Kalinga Media Centre (KMC) will conclude on Monday.

Commerce and Transport Minister Dr Nrusingha Charan Sahu will grace the closing ceremony. The meet was inaugurated by Minister of MSME Prafulla Samal and MP Lok Sabha Bhartruhari Mahtab.

Former vice-chancellor of Utkal University of Culture Prof. Dr Amiya Patnaik presided over the inaugural ceremony. National repute research organizations like ICHR and ICSSR have been associated with the event as academic partners.
