Smuggled gold seized again at Bhubaneswar airport


Bhubaneswar: Gold worth around Rs 6 lakh was seized at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) here Bhubaneswar from two passengers, who have been detained in this connection.

The seizure of gold smuggled from Bangkok was reported for the seventh time in a week.

Acting on spot intelligence, the officers of Air Intelligence unit of Customs seized the gold worth over Rs 5 lakh smuggled through Bhubaneswar airport from a passenger of Indian origin hailing from New Delhi.

The passengers arrived from Bangkok for the second straight day today.

In last one week, smuggled gold worth Rs 42 lakh was seized from passengers who had arrived here from from Bangkok by Air Asia flight via Kuala Lumpur. With today’s seizure, smuggled gold worth Rs 50 lakh was so far seized from the airport.

Today, acting on spot intelligence, officers of Air Intelligence Unit of Customs at the airport intercepted two passengers of Indian origin, who arrived from Bangkok by Air Asia flight via Kuala Lumpur, sources said.
