Hardcore Maoist carrying Rs 8 lakh bounty surrenders in Odisha


Bhubaneswar: In what comes as a severe jolt for the outlawed Maoist organisation, a hardcore leader the banned outfit named Kunu Dehury has surrendered before police, DGP RP Sharma informed on Friday.

He was carrying Rs 8 lakh cash reward on his head.

He surrendered before Odisha police having lost faith in the ideology of the CPI (Maoist) organization and dwindling support base as a result of intensive operations by the security forces, said the DGP.

A resident of Jujumara of Sambalpur, Kunu had joined as a rebel in the Maoist outfit in 2002 and since then he was active in five districts.

As many as 51 cases are pending in his name at different police stations of Odisha, the DGP informed.
