4 elephants killed in train accident in Jharsuguda


Bhubaneswar: As many as four elephants were killed after being run over by a train at Teladihi under Bagadihi forest range in Jharsuguda district in the wee hours on Monday.

The mutilated bodies of the jumbos were found lying at the Teladihi gate.

Forest officials have reached the spot and started an investigation.

It is suspected that they were killed after being hit by a speeding train.

According to reports, when the herd comprising of one tusker, two female elephants and a calf were crossing over the tracks in the wee hours at around 4 am today near Teladihi level crossing, they were hit by a speeding train leading to the death of the four animals on the spot.

Train movement has been severely disrupted on the Mumbai-Howrah route.
