Mini marathon organised against use of plastic in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Ahead of World Environment Day-2018, Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF &CC) on Sunday organized a mini-marathon run popularly known as Envithon at Bhubaneswar to take steps against the use of plastic for safeguarding the eco-system of the country.

Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) provided all logistics support for the successful conduct of the programme.

The mini marathon was held from IDCO Exhibition ground to Kalinga Stadium covering around 5 km on the heart of the capital city.

MCL along with other Public Sector Undertakings NALCO, SAIL, NTPC, IOCL, PGCIL and Centre for Environment Studies (CES) and Regional Museum of Natural History (RMNH), Bhubaneswar organized this marathon.

Around 1000 students from various schools and colleges and the common public took part in this marathon to promote awareness.

MCL put forth a commendable effort by organizing this marathon to counter the plastic waste problems and maintaining the cleanliness of the mother world.

It may be noted here that, India is the global host of 2018 World Environment Day to combat single use of plastic pollution. The theme set for 2018 World Environment Day is ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’.

India is organizing the event through a series of activities to urge the community and individuals to join hands to explore sustainable alternatives and reduce excess use of single-use plastic polluting our oceans, damaging marine life and threatening human health.
