Indian Ambassador to Brazil visits Bhubaneswar Smart City office


Bhubaneswar: Indian ambassador to Brazil Ashok Kumar Das on Thursday visited the office of Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) and interacted with BSCL officials on the various projects and their progress.

He also went to the Bhubaneswar Operations Centre (BOC), where the command control centre for the city will operate soon.

BSCL Managing Director, Municipal Commissioner and Vice-Chairman BDA Dr Krishan Kumar briefed the Ambassador about the various Smart City projects and their progress. The Ambassador expressed his happiness over the progress of projects in the city.

Inside the Bhubaneswar Operations Centre, the Ambassador was briefed about how the video wall will be used to monitor various city operations so that there could be a 24X7 surveillance mechanism in place once the integrated command and control centre-the biggest among all cities across India-becomes operational.

The first of its kind centralized command control centre of the nation will monitor, operate, and control existing services of the city.

The command centre will keep an eye on several functions like traffic management, incident management, city surveillance, emergency services, disaster management and much more. Various external modules shall also be integrated into the system to provide real-time decision support.

The Ambassador saw live control of intelligent traffic control system, monitoring of the vehicles deployed to transport solid waste across the city as the system has been integrated to BOC.

The state-of-art centre includes a massive video wall of more than 100-foot length (with 16 x 2 configuration of 70-inch panels) and shall be used to monitor traffic, the large volume of closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, highly sophisticated sensor data and emergency services, etc.

It will provide a digital platform for integrating multiple city sub-systems of parking, public transport, and Common Payment Card along with Effective Emergency Response Management for any incident in the city.

Once operational, this will greatly improve the speed and efficiency of service delivery by the city through proper inter-agency coordination with police, fire services and health facilities.

Later at BSCL office in BMC-Bhawani Mall, the Ambassador was briefed about all major projects undertaken by the special purpose vehicle-projects under coming under the Area Based Development and those across the city (Pan City Proposal).

BSCL MD Krishan Kumar presented the progress of Smart Janpath, Adaptive Traffic Signal Control System, Common Payment Card (PPP Project), Solar City Roof Top, Saheed Nagar and Raj Mahal multi-level car parking, Social Equity Centre, Integrated Public services centre, Smart Parks, Satya Nagar Institutional Core and Making Bhubaneswar Socially Smart before the visiting guest.
