Govt bus service hit as Maoists observe Malkangiri bandh


Bhubaneswar: Government bus service was disrupted in Odisha’s Malkangiri district due to a bandh call given by Maoists in protest against Gurupriya Setu operation and construction of the Polavaram project in Andhra Pradesh.

According to reports, Maoists have opposed movement of vehicles on the Gurupriya Setu for which government buses have remained off the road.

The Maoists are also opposing Polavaram irrigation project citing that it would affect many villages of Malkangiri.

Meanwhile, adequate police personnel have been deployed in the district to ensure that no untoward incident occurs during the bandh.
