Odisha CM announces Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia for Malkangiri rape victim’s family

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh for the next of the kin of the Malkangiri rape victim, who committed suicide.

Kalimela Tehsildar has handed over the cheque to the family members of the deceased at her village, said a statement from Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

The minor girl of Sikhapali Residential School in the district was raped by school headmaster following which she killed herself by cutting her wrists.

The girl was found lying in a pool of blood in the computer lab of the school on Thursday. She was rushed to the hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.

The accused headmaster, Biswajit Sarkar was arrested on Saturday. The district collector also placed four other staff of the school under suspension.
