Govt quarters demolition started for BMC-ICOMC building


Bhubaneswar: Demolition of two Government quarters of General Administration Department started on Wednesday by a joint team of BMC and BDA in Bhubaneswar.

The two government quarters 4R/3 and 4R/4 at Unit IX area opposite Satya Nagar crematorium were demolished.

This is the first step towards constructing the new BMC building with the Intelligent City Operations and Management Centre (ICOMC) under the Smart City Proposal, for which total four 4R quarters and eight 3R quarters will be demolished.

For the project, the GA Department has already given permission on May 30. In fact, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) had applied for the land on January 25.

Apart from the 12 quarters, there was also a firewood godown of Odisha Forest Development Corporation (OFDC), which was supplying wood for people coming to use the Satya Nagar crematorium.

BMC was asked by the State Government to accommodate the OFDC facility inside the crematorium ground so that people would be benefitted.

Among others, GM Operations Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited Bijay Kumar Swain, Zonal Deputy Commissioner (South East) Binay Kumar Dash and senior engineers and officials of BMC and BSCL were present during the demolition work.

The 2,31,000 square feet structure of BMC office and ICOMC will be developed in an area of 4.04 acres. The Rs 70 crore structure will have parking in basement, BMC office on lower and upper ground floor, ICOMC facility on first and second floor, third floor with cafeteria and landscaped area with terrace and all the floors above third floor will have BMC offices.
