Tension at Konark Sun Temple over fee hike

Bhubaneswar: Tension prevailed at the Konark Sun Temple as locals protested against entry fee hike of the temple.

They locked the main gate of the temple and the ticket counter.

Notably, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has hiked the entry fee from Rs 30 to Rs 40 for Indian nationals and from Rs 500 to Rs 600 for foreign visitors.

The increase has been enforced from today after a decision was taken in this regard at a joint meeting of the Puri district administration and the ASI recently.

Visitors were stunned to be asked to pay Rs 40 per head at the ticket counter. Many visitors returned without visiting the temple.

The main gate and the ticket counter were opened following the intervention of the local police.
