Demand for permanent Orissa HC bench gains momentum


Sambalpur: Intensifying their stir for a permanent bench of the Orissa High Court in western Odisha, the members of Sambalpur District Bar Association on Wednesday staged a dharna at the Nelson Mandela Chhak here.

The association also decided to close down all the courts in the district from today till September 20, the concluding day of the monsoon session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly.

The sit-in protest will take place from 10 am to 5 pm every day till September 20, a member of the association said.

The bar association has threatened to shut down offices of the district Collector, RDC, Registrar, RTO and Election Commission as a part of the protest.

They demanded that the state government should initiate the process for a discussion with the union government for setting up a permanent bench of Orissa High Court in western Odisha.

They said the people in the region will be benefited with the setting up of the permanent bench.
