MCI approves 250 MBBS seats for SCB Medical College for next five years

Bhubaneswar: The Medical Council of India (MCI) has approved an increase of MBBS seats in SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack from 150 to 250 for the next five years.

“The Executive Committee of MCI considered assessment reports and decided to recommend to the Central government for recognition/approval of SCB Medical College and Hospital for the award of MBBS degree granted by Utkal University against the increased intake from 150 to 250 seats,” Union Health and Family Welfare Secretary said in a communiqué.

The recommendations were approved by the Oversight Committee.

As per MCI guidelines, the medical college that seeks enhancement of undergraduate seats would be subject to scrutiny every year for five years to check whether the infrastructure and annual targets fixed by the Council are maintained.

Earlier this year, MCI teams had visited the medical college twice to review healthcare facilities and its infrastructure.
