Former Minister Dolagobinda Pradhan passes away


Bhubaneswar: Noted freedom fighter and former Odisha Minister Dolagobinda Pradhan passed away at his residence in Bhubaneswar on Monday. He was 93.

Pradhan is survived by his wife, four sons and three daughters.

Pradhan was born on June 7, 1929, in Dihasahi of Cuttack. A staunch follower of Mahatma Gandhi, he took part in the Quit India Movement in 1942 and got imprisoned by the then British government for over 3 years.

In his political career, Pradhan joined Indian National Congress (INC) and got elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly twice from Cuttack Sadar constituency.

Later he became the Urban Development Minister of Odisha in 1989.

Freedom fighters, eminent personalities and many politicians cutting across party lines visited the minister’s residence this morning to pay last respects to the departed soul.

Odisha Governor Prof. Ganeshi Lal condoled the sad demise of Pradhan.

“His contribution to the freedom struggle and to our social life will be remembered forever. He was a true Gandhian and had dedicated his life to uphold Gandhian values in words and actions,” said the Governor.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik condoled the death of Pradhan and conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

Health Minister Pratap Jena condoled the death of veteran freedom fighter.He shared grief with his family members and prayed let the soul rest in peace.
