Odisha govt silent on rising crimes against women: Vijaya Rahatkar

Bhubaneswar: BJP Mahila Morcha national president Vijaya Rahatkar on Sunday hit out at the Odisha government for rising crimes against women and children in the state.

“Incidents of rape are on the rise in Odisha. Though women in the state are being raped every day, the Chief Minister has remained tight-lipped and is taking no step to curb this heinous crime. Even children in the state are not safe,” said Rahatkar.

She said the issues would be discussed at the three-day national executive committee meeting of the party’s Mahila Morcha beginning at Puri on Sunday.

National BJP president Amit Shah will attend the meeting on Monday. Besides, several senior leaders including some union ministers will attend the executive meeting.

Responding to the allegations, Biju Mahila Janata Dal (BMJD) president Pramila Mallick said the chief minister had taken several steps to deal with crime against women in the state.
