JSPL wins prestigious NGOBOX CSR Impact Award


Bhubaneswar: Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (JSPL) has been conferred with ‘5th CSR Impact Awards’ in Environment Category for its natural resource management initiatives under the CSR programmes.

Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Anant Kumar Hegde presented the award to JSPL’s Group Head (CSR & Education) Prashant Kumar Hota.

This prestigious CSR award for the environment was delivered to JSPL in the presence of Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development Satya Pal Singh during India CSR Summit 2018 organised by the leading front-line organisation the NGOBOX at New Delhi on Monday.

Director of OP Jindal Community College Miriam Carter was present along with Prashant Kumar Hota to receive the award.

Chairman JSPL Naveen Jindal twitted congratulating the Team CSR for the award and said, “such recognition will motivate us to do better “.

Congratulating the team, Co-Chairperson of JSPL Foundation Shallu Jindal said, “Protection and sustainable management of natural resources has been a focused area for JSPL under its CSR activities. WADI and Watershed Development projects implemented by the JSPL Foundation are models for the holistic development of the Community as well as for the holistic protection of Mother nature”.

Thanking the Jury members for the award, she added that award would encourage JSPL foundation to explore replicating similar programmes in other deserving locations.

JSPL has been awarded for implementation of Integrated Watershed Development & WADI programmes in Odisha and Chhattisgarh in partnership with NABARD. Winner for the ‘5th CSR Impact Awards’ was selected after the two-stage evaluation concluding with the Jury Round.

After receiving the award JSPL’s Group Head (CSR & Education) Prashant Kumar Hota said, “It is a privilege to receive the award from two Union Ministers. JSPL has been working for the holistic development of the community in and around its operational areas. WADI and Watershed projects have truly been instrumental in bringing all-round development in select villages of Angul District of Odisha and Tamnar District of Chhattisgarh”.

Recently JSPL own the India CSR Award for the Decade for social investment in Chhattisgarh. JSPL Foundation had also won the Odisha CSR Forum Award for sustainable development projects.

Under watershed development programme in Angul district Odisha, a catchment of 4000 acres have been treated on a ridge to valley basis benefiting 2500 rural families.

Bioengineering interventions have been made for control of Soil erosion and groundwater recharge, benefiting 2000 farming families and 250 underprivileged landless families and enhancing the Farm income three times on a sustainable basis.

Under the WADI programme in Tamnar District of Chhattisgarh, Agro Horti-Silvi-Pasteural Orchards have been raised for 500 tribal families improving their income and quality of life multi-fold on a sustainable basis. There has been revere migration and eliminating sustainably school drop out and drastically reducing IMR & MMR in both projects.

Besides, the company, in its business locations, has undertaken more than 10 lakhs community driven plantation and excavated more than 200 Ponds and water harvesting structures in the plant vicinity creating carbon sink and balancing the ecosystem.
