Despite Supreme Court directive, lawyers intensify stir in Odisha

Cuttack: Despite the Supreme Court order, the lawyers continued their strike on Friday demanding action against the police personnel involved in the attack on an advocate in Cuttack.

The lawyers intensified their strike by locking up the main gate of the Orissa High Court. The judges were not allowed to enter the court.

They also took out a rally in Cuttack demanding action over the policy excess.

Notably, the lawyers are on strike demanding the arrest of cops involved in the attack on advocate Debi Prasad Patnaik August 28.

Two Constables — BK Samal and UK Bhuyan and Havildar PK Behera – have been suspended in connection with the attack on the lawyer.

The agitation was intensified even after the Supreme Court on Thursday asked the lawyers to end the strike and join their duty in order to help people getting access to justice.

The apex court directed the Odisha Director General of Police RP Sharma to transfer the investigation to Crime Branch Inspector General of Police.

However, the lawyers alleged that they were not heard by the Supreme Court and the direction of the court came after hearing one party.
