Naveen requests Modi to pass Bill for women reservation in Parliament, assemblies

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take necessary steps in passing the Bill for one-third reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies.

In a letter to the PM, the CM assured full support from the state government in providing women with their rightful place in the decision-making process.

“I would like to request your goodself to take the leadership in initiating necessary steps for passing the Bill for reservation of one third of seats in Parliament and state legislatures for women,” said Patnaik.

Informing that Mahatma Gandhi always spoke of gender equality and empowerment of women in society, he said taking the historic decision to empower women in the country would be the finest tribute to the father of the nation on his 150th birth anniversary.

Notably, the state assembly recently adopted a unanimous resolution to provide for one-third reservation of women in Parliament as well as in assemblies.
