Bhubaneswar Railway Station To Get Free WiFi Service From April 17

Railways to offer unreserved tickets in Odia language

Bhubaneswar: The Railway Ministry has decided that unreserved train tickets will be made available in the vernacular languages, apart from Hindi and English.

In view of this, Railways has prepared all station names of Indian Railways in Odia script which will now be implemented in 317 stations in Odisha coming under under East Coast Railway, South Eastern Railway & South East Central Railway jurisdictions, said a release on Friday.

With technical support from CRIS, Kolkata, the database of more than 8 thousand station names in Odia script has been prepared by East Coast Railway as a passenger-friendly initiative.

Steps have been taken to print the station name in Odia script to match with the vernacular name of the station as per the local language of that particular area of the country.

The train tickets having Odia script would be applicable for Unreserved Tickets bought manually from the Railway counters in Odisha, the release said.

So, many people from Odisha who had problem with reading English & Hindi languages on train tickets and who did not know if they had the right tickets vis-a-vis their intended originating & destination Stations as well as Class of travel and Train Type are correct or not, can now read the same in Odia Script.

In Digital India, Railways is the largest service provider in the country and strives to promote vernacular language – the language of the people.  A decision has been taken to start this service from 1st April (ODISHA DIWAS)-2019.
