Cyclone Fani: Odisha govt declares closure of educational establishments


Bhubaneswar: With Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm Fani inching closure towards Odisha coast, the state government on Wednesday declared to close all educational establishments from May 2.

“All educational establishments should declare holidays from 2nd May till further orders. All the examinations should be rescheduled,” said office of Special Relief Commissioner (SRC).

The SRC said despite government orders some schools are yet to declare summer holidays.

Collectors have been requested to issue notices to them and ensure compliance.

The Election Commission has also lifted the model code of conduct in 11 districts to facilitate speedy relief and rescue operation.

The model code of conduct has been lifted in the districts of Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Khurdha, Cuttack and Jajpur.

The major threat of the cyclone will be heavy rain, flooding, damaging wind gusts, and storm surge. Be advised to secure loose objects and prepare for low lying area inundation and power outage.

Tourists are being advised to leave Puri by 2nd May evening. Non- essential travel may be cancelled during 3- 4 May to the likely affected districts.
