Odisha celebrates Raja festival

Bhubaneswar: As Odisha is celebrating the three-day Raja festival, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday greeted the people on this occasion.

Taking to Twitter, the Chief Minister wished for happiness and prosperity for everyone on this auspicious three-day celebration.

Raja (pronounced as raw-jaw) festival celebrates the menstrual cycle of Mother Earth once a year. It is believed that Mother Earth undergoes her menstrual cycle these three days.

All the agricultural operations remain suspended during this period.

The most special thing about Raja festival is that it correlates the fertility of the land to that of a woman. It celebrates a girl’s onset of womanhood, i.e. menstruation.
