EcoR lays stress on new ideas to replace plastic


Bhubaneswar: East Coast Railway has organised a seminar on environmental pollution and the plastic-free nation at Rail Sadan here to mark Swachhata Pakhwada-2019.

Gracing the occasion, ECoR General Manager Vidya Bhushan stressed upon not using single-use plastic in Railway premises, trains, residential areas and Railway establishments.

He also asked to encourage passengers, vendors, railwaymen, rail users to avoid the use of single-use plastic products and to use reusable bags to reduce plastic usages.

The huge amount of plastic being used in packaging needs a rethink and redesign, he added.

Joining the seminar, Dr Jayakrushna Panigrahi, Odisha Environmental Society secretary said that plastic materials affect the environment because these are never degradable, are not easy to recycle.

Since the plastic materials are harmful to human health, massive awareness needs to done to educate common people to avoid its use, said Panigrahi.

All principal heads of Departments of ECoR were present on the occasion.
