Surgeon accused of exposing twelve patients to HIV risk


Bhubaneswar: Tension ran high at Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Odisha’s Burla after a dentist performed dental surgery on 12 patients immediately after carrying out operation on an HIV+ve patient without necessary sterilisation.

Asst Professor Dr Prasanta Swain is accused of performing dental surgery on 12 patients immediately after carrying out operation on an HIV+ve patient without necessary sterilisation.

Dental surgery dept of hospital shut down for disinfection after the incident was reported on Monday.

Meanwhile, a probe has been ordered into the allegations.
