Makar Sankranti 2020: Odisha govt announces holiday

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday announced government holiday on Makar Sankranti 2020, which falls on January 15.

All state government offices and educational institutions will remain closed on Makar Sankranti on 15th January 2020.

Banks and other banking institutions will also remain closed on the occasion of Makar Sankranti 2020.

Makar Sankranti is celebrated as per the Hindu calendar month of Magha. Makar Sankranti marks the transition of the Sun into Capricorn on its celestial path.

In Jagannath Temple at Puri, this festival is observed as Uttarayana Yatra and Uttarayan Vandapana of Lord Jagannath.
