Former Odisha MLA’s aide arrested by Chhattisgarh police

Bhubaneswar: The Chhattisgarh police on Saturday arrested driver and a close aide of former Odisha MLA Anup Sai for his involvement in the double murder case in 2016.

The police arrested Barman Toppo, the driver of Sai. On Thursday, Chhattisgarh police had arrested Anup Sai for his alleged involvement in the mother and daughter murder case. 

Toppo was named by Sai of being involved in the brutal murder of one Kalpana Das and her minor daughter in May 2016.

Raighar SP Santosh Kumar Singh had yesterday said that Sai had confessed to killing Kalpana and her daughter after their illicit relation went wayward.

 Sai had said that under his orders his driver Toppo used an iron rod to kill Das and her daughter.Later, Sai had instructed him to run an SUV over the bodies to conceal their identities.

Following the arrest, BJD president Naveen Patnaik expelled Sai from the party.
