Brown sugar of over Rs 1 cr seized in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch seized a whopping 1.749 kg of brown sugar worth more than Rs 1.7 crore from Jatni area in Khurda district, said an official on Thursday.

The STF arrested three persons in the brown sugar trade last evening.

This is the biggest ever seizure of brown sugar in Odisha, said DGP Abhay.

The STF team had raided three places– Airfield area in Bhubaneswar, Jatni in Khurda district and Pipili in Puri district on Wednesday evening.

In the year 2018-19, the Odisha police had seized less than 4 kg of brown sugar. But in the current year, STF team has so far seized more than 4 kg of brown sugar within two months, said the DGP.
