Brown sugar worth Rs 4.5 crore seized, biggest ever haul in a day

Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force (STF) of Crime Branch has seized nearly 4.48 kg of brown sugar worth about Rs 4.5 crore, the biggest ever haul in a day, from Bhubaneswar.

The agency has also arrested three persons in this connection.

The accused have been identified as Debasish Behera, Sk Kausar Ali and Prabir Kumar Singh.

Police said that all the accused hail from various areas in Balasore district.

“Due to sustained drive in 2020 so far, STF alone has seized 12.25 kg of brown sugar and detected 19 cases against the drug peddlers. So far, STF arrested as many as 39 drug peddlers,” said a statement.

“The magnitude of such seizure will become evident from the fact that the total seizure of 2020 till date by STF alone is more than the total cumulative seizure made by Odisha Police (All agencies of Odisha Police) for the last six years,” it said.
