Rape accused cop arrested by Crime Branch in Odisha


Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Crime Branch on Wednesday arrested the dismissed Inspector In-Charge of Biramitrapur police station in Sundargarh district for his alleged involvement in rape and abortion of a minor girl.

Anand Majhi had allegedly subjected the 13-year-old tribal girl to sexual assault in the police station and forced her to undergo abortion.

Crime Branch arrested him from Handapa area of Angul, informed Odisha DGP.

“Crime Branch has traced and arrrested Ananda Chandra Majhi, dismissed Inspector and accused in this case from forested area under Handapa PS of Angul district. He will be produced before judicial court now. Well done Crime Branch of Odisha Police,” tweeted DGP.

Majhi was accused of raping a 13-year-old girl for the period of four months and later terminating the pregnancy forcefully without informing the District Child Welfare.

Majhi along with four others were accused of gang-raping the 13-year-old tribal girl for several weeks between March and June.

Besides, a case was registered against a government doctor for allegedly conducting forceful abortion of the girl’s foetus.
