Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided to include the transgender community under its social welfare scheme-Madhu Babu Pension Yojana.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has approved a proposal in this regard.
Social Security & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Minister Ashok Chandra Panda informed that the transgenders can apply for the pension directly on the website or via forms.
Based on their age, the transgenders could receive Rs 500-900 per month, he added.
Over 7000 transgenders will be benefitted following their inclusion under the Madhu Babu Pension Yojana.
Besides, the Minister said that beneficiaries of Madhu Babu Pension Yojana will get another installment of Rs 1000 as financial assistance.
Around 48 lakh people of the state will get the benefit. Funds have been allocated and very soon the amount will be released, informed the SSEPD Minister.
The state government has already allocated financial assistance to the beneficiaries for four months starting from April to July.
