Eight from Odisha killed in Chhattisgarh road accident


Bhubaneswar: At least eight people were killed and another six injured after a bus transporting labourers from Odisha’s Ganjam district met with an accident in Raipur of Chhattisgarh on Saturday early morning.

The bus carrying around 70 people to Surat in Gujarat collided with a truck at Cheri Khedi in Raipur at about 3.30 am.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed deep grief at the tragic death in the serious road accident in Raipur.

The Chief Minister conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved families and announced exgratia of Rs 2lakh each from CMRF to the next of the kin of the deceased.

The Chief Minister also announced free medical treatment to the injured and wished their speedy recovery.

Patnaik has directed Labour Minister Sushant Singh to immediately proceed to Raipur to extend necessary assistance to the victims of accident.

He also asked DGP to remain in touch with DG Chhatisgarh for coordination.

DGP Abhay sent a police team under SDPO Padampur to Raipur to assist the local police authorities.

Fifty-nine remaining labours are safe and under the care of Raipur administration.
