Nitish seeks BJD’s support for RS deputy chairman post

Bhubaneswar: Bihar Chief Minister and JD (U) president Nitish Kumar on Thursday spoke to Odisha Chief Minister and BJD president Naveen Patnaik seeking BJD’s support for Harivansh Narayan Singh, who has filed nomination for Rajya Sabha deputy chairman post as NDA nominee.

JDU parliamentarian Harivansh on Wednesday filed his nomination papers for the post of Deputy Chairperson of the Rajya Sabha.

Nitish Kumar requested Patnaik to extend his support to Singh for the post of Rajya Sabha deputy chairman.

It is to be noted that BJD had supported the same candidate in the last Rajya Sabha deputy chairman election.

Harivansh held the post from August 2018, but his Rajya Sabha term ended on April 9. With his re-election to the upper house, he became NDA’s natural choice for the post.
