Jagannath Temple in Puri to reopen before New Year 2021


Puri: The Jagannath Temple in Puri will reopen for devotees ahead of New Year 2021.

This was decided at a meeting of the Chhattisha Nijog (apex body of servitors) on Saturday.

Shree Jagannth Temple Administration (SJTA) chief Krishan Kumar said they would request the state government within two days for reopening of Puri Jagannath Temple for devotees.

He said it was decided that temple will be reopened between December 22 and 24.

The temple will reopen for residents of Puri initially.Devotees outside the district will be allowed to visit the temple from January 3. Devotees with COVID negative report will be allowed to enter the temple, said Kumar.

A maximum of 5,000 devotees will be allowed per day for darshan of the deities after reopening of the temple.

Use of sanitizers and masks will be mandatory for devotees entering the shrine premises. Sanitizers will be provided to devotees at the four entrances of the temple, the chief administrator said.
