COVID-19 vaccines to arrive in Odisha today


Bhubaneswar: The first consignment of the COVID-19 vaccines will arrive in Odisha from Pune on Tuesday afternoon.

Covishield, supplied by Serum Institute of India, will reach Odisha as the first consignment of the vaccine was dispatched from Pune to several places across the country, including Bhubaneswar.

SpiceJet airline’s Pune-Bhubaneswar cargo flight carrying Covishield is likely to arrive at the Biju Patnaik International Airport here around 3.15 PM. The state will receive 40,800 vials of the vaccine today, reports said.

Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Praditpa Mohapatra said that the vaccines supplied by the Serum Institute of India (SII) in Pune will arrive at the Biju Patnaik International Airport in a special SpiceJet cargo flight.

Notably, the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive will commence from January 16.

In Odisha, 160 session sites have been identified for the launching of COVID vaccine.

Out of which, at two sites Capital Hospital, Bhubaneswar and District Head Quarter Hospital, Sundergarh have been identified for the 2-ways Video Conferencing.
