Rourkela: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday laid foundation stone for India’s largest Hockey Stadium in Rourkela.
The state government has set a target to build the stadium with a capacity of 20,000 ahead of Men’s Hockey World Cup in 2023.
The proposed hockey stadium in Rourkela has been named after the famous tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda. It will be 2nd venue host the Hockey World Cup 2023.
Spirit of hockey is deeply ingrained in soil, water and air of Sundargarh. Rourkela which has played an indispensable part in the development of the district finally gets its due recognition with selection for co-hosting upcoming Hockey World Cup, said the CM.
