Covid cases continue to surge in Odisha’s institutes


Bhubaneswar: Covid cases continued to surge in Odisha’s several institutes.

At least five institutes- NIT Rourkela, XIMB Bhubaneswar, Allen Institute Bhubaneswar, IIT, Bhubaneswar and a private college in Cuttack have reported positive cases in the past few days.

The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporations (BMC) has already sealed the XIMB and Allen Institute after students from these two institutes, mostly from outsiders tested covid positive.

More than 20 students have tested positive for Covid-19 at the ALLEN Career Institute. Similarly, ten fresh cases of the virus were reported from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bhubaneswar.

Khordha district collector Sanat Mohanty said the IIT students who tested positive have all self-quarantined.

All ten of them are from outside Odisha.

Similalry, public entry into the campus of the ALLEN Career Institute has been restricted and all the positive patients have been put under quarantine.

As many as 290 people found infected with the coronavirus in the last 24 hours in the state. They included 171 from the quarantine centres and 119 as local contact cases. Odisha currently has 1,650 active Covid-19 cases.
