Former Ranji player Prashant Mohapatra dies of Covid-19


Bhubaneswar: Ten days after the demise of renowned sculptor Raghunath Mohapatra due to Covid-19, his son Prashant Mohapatra, a former Ranji player, also succumbed to the disease on Wednesday.

Prashant, former Odisha cricket team captain, was undergoing treatment at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhubaneswar.

“A four-member team was treating him and constantly monitoring his health condition. Despite all efforts, we could not save him. There is no improvement in the condition of his brother Jashobant too,” informed AIIMS Bhubaneswar Medical Superintendent Sachidananda Mohanty.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed his grief on the demise of Prashant and paid condolences to the bereaved family.

Raghunath’s other son Jasobant Mohapatra is also undergoing treatment for Covid-19 at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar.

Raghunath had succumbed to the disease on May 9.
