Private bus strike called off in Odisha

Odisha govt considering tax waiver for private buses

Bhubaneswar: As private bus owners are facing tough time due to Covid-19 restrictions, the Odisha government is planning to waive tax for private buses and provide incentives in the state.

Transport Minister Padmanabha Behera said the government is taking steps to ensure normalisation of bus services post lockdown.

“Currently, private buses are plying in as many as 20 Category A districts. A decision regarding plying of buses in 10 Category B districts will be taken soon,” said Behera.

Last week, the Bus Owners’ Association had demanded before the government for tax waiver as they are facing losses in business due to the Covid lockdowns.

As many as 14,000 private buses ply every day in Odisha.
