Bhubaneswar: Notorious gangster Sk Hyder was killed in a police encounter in Odisha’s Balasore on Saturday.
Hyder was encountered while being shifted to Baripada jail from Choudwar jail in Cuttack. He had sustained two bullet injuries on his leg and stomach. The encounter took place at around 3.20 PM near Simulia in Balasore district.
The gangster succumbed to his injuries at Balasore District Headquarters Hospital.
Midway near Simulia, he asked the cops to stop for a while to attend nature’s call at around 3.20 pm.
“He asked our men to stop the vehicle to attend nature’s call. He later snatched away a pistol and tried to escape. Police opened fire to prevent him from escaping and in the process he sustained bullet injuries,” said Police Commissioner Saumendra Priyadarshi.
He suffered bullet injuries in his abdomen and was rushed to Balasore District Headquarters Hospital (DHH). He succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital, doctors said.
Hyder had earlier escaped from SCB Hospital on April 10. He was nabbed from Telangana after a 120-hour-long operation launched by the Commissionerate Police.
Police said that more than 15 cases related to murder, extortion, and attempt to murder are lodged against the gangster in various police stations of Kendrapara, Bhubaneswar, and Puri.
